Why Deadlift isn't Worth it

People often rave about deadlifting. About how it is one of the "core" exercises and how it is great for building "core" strength and other things like that.

We simply don’t agree with this. The deadlift is another exercise like many others with its pros and cons, however, in this exercise, the cons are far greater than the pros, which makes this exercise not worth it - the risk is simply too great.

Deadlift simply isn't worth it

The risk of back injury. Your back is your best friend when it comes to physical agility. It is a marvel of nature, it is more precious than your teeth - so you should treat it better than doing a deadlift with it. The risk of back injury is far too great in deadlifts.

Often you would see gym trainers pushing people for doing deadlifts, with wearing a belt. Our question is why wear the belt? The answer is for the prevention of hernia-related injuries. This brings another question to mind - is there any real-life situation where you would wear a support belt to lift something very heavy.

The answer is, there is not. There are many times when you have to lift something from the ground, as you do with a deadlift, but without wearing a belt and the thing is probably not that heavy.

At last a single pro of doing deadlifts. It teaches you how to lift heavy things off the ground. A person who hasn't done a deadlift is prone to half-ass his way through lifting heavy things and increasing the risk of back injury. But a person who has done this exercise knows to keep their back straight as an arrow as they lift things off the ground.

At last, we come to the "core" strength part. Many other exercises help you develop a good posture and make you light on your feet. Shrugs is one of them. Simply lifting two appropriately heavy dumbbells in both your hands and walking some distance is another such exercise that can give you much stability in your core.

Our verdict is, a deadlift isn’t worth it unless your job is to do a deadlift – the risk to reward ratio is simply too great.
